![]() I get the reasoning for backing either side in this game, but I’m firmly on the under in this one. San Jose is 1-9 in their last 10 games against the Central division and 8-25 in their last 33 games played on no rest while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 Saturday games. Nashville is 0-5 in their last 5 games played on no rest and 1-5 in their last 6 games against the Western Conference while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall. Juuse Saros got the win in goal for Nashville, stopping 30 of the 31 shots faced in the win while James Reimer ended up with the loss for the Sharks, allowing 3 goals on 28 shots faced in the losing effort. The 3-1 lead would hold into the 3 rd and for much of the final frame before Matt Duchene iced the win for Nashville with an empty-netter with less than a minute to play. ![]() The tie would hold into the second period, where Eeli Tolvanen restored Nashville’s lead just 1:24 into the second and Nino Niederreiter doubled the lead with his first goal as a Predator with just under five minutes to go in the second. Kiefer Sherwood opened the scoring for the Predators just over a minute into the game but Tomas Hertl would tie things up at one just 7:35 later. The Nashville Predators will be looking to start the year with back-to-back wins after opening things up with a 4-1 win over the Sharks in Friday’s matchup. But ultimately, they are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing after these two games. The Nashville Predators and the San Jose Sharks meet in NHL action from the O2 Arena on Saturday afternoon. This game reinforced two of the main issues on the Predators last year: penalties and playing in their own zone too often. To their credit, the Predators are usually pretty good at playing defensive hockey. Of course, this has rightfully been a complaint with the team over the past few seasons, and it is not sustainable to long-term success. The team still did a good job in front of Kevin Lankinen, who himself had a good debut with the Predators. They gave up a lot of shots, but most of them seemed to come from the outside and in generally low percentage scoring areas. But for as much time as they played defensively, they did well with it. The third period was a stressful one for the Predators, as they were on defense nearly the whole time and had only three shots on goal. Nashville Predators hold it down defensively in third period And that ultimately was the difference between winning and losing in this one. The Predators not only responded to adversity after the second goal against, but they took advantage of the chances they got. Then a few minutes after that, the aforementioned game-winner by Niederreiter happened. The Predators would give up another goal just seconds after than, but they tied it not long after than with a great wrap-around pursuit goal by Filip Forsberg. ![]() That changed in the second when Niederreiter got them on the board after cleaning up a rebound from Johansen. The Predators has the Sharks on their heels for parts of the first period, but whenever it felt like they would get a chance, nothing really came of it. Nashville Predators take advantage in second period It is safe to say that signing Niederreiter to the contract he got was a steal for the Predators. He has been the most noticeable on a second line that has looked so good so far, and it you can tell he and Ryan Johansen still have chemistry from their days as teammates before the NHL. This pass from Tolvanen and this shot by Niederreiter.ģ-2 #Preds on Nino's 2nd of the night and 3rd in two games. It was such a perfect feed from Eeli Tolvanen - who himself has looked great to start the year - and the shot by Niederreiter was perfectly placed. He had two goals, including the game winner when he was coming out of the penalty box and joined the rush perfectly. Especially after today’s game, the sentiment has only continued to grow. ![]() When the Predators acquired Niederreiter, the feeling was that he would be a fan-favorite and mesh perfectly with the team’s identity. Nino Niederreiter continues to shine for Nashville Predators Let’s get into what fueled the victory today. The team certainly has not been perfect in these first two games, but they have gotten wins, which is of course what ultimately matters. That was very much the case today, as the Predators were under pressure late, but did their job and earned another victory against the San Jose Sharks, advancing to 2-0-0 on the season and earning all wins in the NHL Global Series. The Nashville Predators tend to win games ugly, oftentimes being forced to stand tall defensively while the offense sputters down the stretch.
